Pediatric neurosurgery is one of the most delicate forms of neurosurgery. The developing nervous system is particularly sensitive to any disturbance and requires surgeons who specialize exclusively in this area to achieve the best outcomes. At Rady Children's Hospital, UCSD neurosurgeons perform several 100 operations per year on children with conditions that affect the nervous system. Dr. Michael Levy and Dr. Hal Meltzer are directors of the pediatric neurosurgical program.
Conditons that are treated include all forms of craniofacial abnormalities, central nervous systems affecting the brain and spine, hydrocephalus requiring shunting treatment, and other forms of advanced neurosurgical operations.
