UCSD Neurosurgery is home to one of the nations leading neurotrauma programs.  Founded by Dr. Lawrence Marshall, past Chief of the Neurosurgery Division, the neurotrauma division developed new insights into the management of increased intracranial pressure through the use of barbiturate coma.

The Neurotrauma program of UCSD Neurosurgery and the Division of Trauma, UCSD Surgery work closely together to develop best outcomes for patient suffering traumatic brain injury.  Every third Tuesday of the month a joint educational conference is held.
