The following conferences are an active part of the didactic program at UCSD neurosurgery. They are open to  students and physicians throughout the community in San Diego.


  • Friday morning 7:30 AM-Neurosurgical grand rounds. Contact Oksana Makodzeba,,  to be added to the weekly mailing list for the grand rounds announcements.   This conference is held in the Goldberg Auditorium at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.
  • Friday mornings to 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM.  Resident didactic teaching sessions. Residents and faculty joined together to teach specific nonsurgical topics.  This also includes procedural training center in the future surgery including simulator work.  This conference is held in the Center for the Future of Surgery at the UCSD school of medicine.
  • Selected Friday mornings at 11:15 AM- brain tumor didactic conference. On selected Fridays, topics are presented related to brain tumor pathophysiology, treatment, and experimental studies. Selected regional and national speakers are invited to participate. This conference is held in the Radiation Medicine conference room at Moores Cancer Center.
  • Vascular conference. Vascular teaching conferences held on the 1st Friday of each month at 8:30 AM in the center for the future of surgery in place of neurosurgical didactic teaching sessions.
  • Trauma conference. Trauma conference is held on the 3rd Friday of each month at 8:30 AM in the Hillcrest clinical teaching facility conference room on the 3rd floor. This is a joint conference that is held with the trauma service each month.
  • Neuropathology conference. At 7:30 AM on the 2nd Friday of each month at grand rounds is dedicated to a neuropathological review and a focus on tumor cases. This conference is taught in the neurosciences conference room at the University California San Diego school of medicine in the Center for neural circuits and behavior.
  • Morbidity and mortality conference. This conference is held at 7:30 AM on the 3rd Friday of each month at the Hillcrest clinical teaching facility third-floor conference room.
  •  Friday outcomes research group. Outcomes research in neurosurgical disease every other Friday at 3:30 PM, the neurosurgical outcomes research group meets in the 3rd floor of the Moores Cancer Center to review  neurosurgical disease and treatment.
  • Imaging and neurosurgery research group. Every other Friday at 3:30 PM the imaging and surgery research group meets in the laboratory of Dr. Anders Dale.   Please contact Dr. Clark Chen  for details regarding this research meeting.
  • CTAN laboratory research meeting. Every Tuesday at 4:30 PM the center for theoretical and applied neuro-oncology research group meets for laboratory meeting. This laboratory meeting includes a journal club and research presentations by members of the center for theoretical and applied neuro-oncology. This meeting is held on the 2nd floor conference room room 2305 in the Moores Cancer Center.
